The Democratic National Committee filed suit today in U.S. District Court in Washington challenging Senator John McCain's decision to opt out of the federal public financing system in his primary race.
In an ongoing — and complicated — drama between the D.N.C. and Mr. McCain, the Democratic committee said that Mr. McCain should not have been permitted to forgo federal funds in his primary race since he had used the promise of receiving those funds as collateral for a bank loan to his campaign.
